In the workplace

The legislation relating to Safety in the Workplace (Law 81/08) does not include the provision of semi-automatic defibrillators by companies, but the obligation to train personnel for first aid. Law 120/01 confirms the importance of the presence of trained personnel and devices capable of protecting workers' health in the workplaces. Therefore, it would be useful to consider the defibrillator as a fire protection system or a fire extinguisher that is an indispensable device to be used in the presence of a critical situation within the company.

In public places

The knowledge of the use of external semi-automatic defibrillators on people affected by cardiac arrest and the knowledge of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation maneuvers is a process that is spreading throughout the region. Sometimes it takes very little to save a life, very little indeed: having defibrillators in public places and someone who knows how to use them. Cardiac arrest does not give warning signs and affects anyone and everywhere. The only chance of safety in the event of cardiac arrest is to have a defibrillator immediately available and use it on the patient.

In schools

Usually, children are considered as unlikely victims of cardiac arrest. Many educational institutions have a very large number of students, teacher, janitors, so the presence of defibrillation devices together with properly trained staff is the only effective way to ensure that the youngest and the school staff receive adequate assistance in the shortest possible period.

In homes

People over the age of 45, who do not practice enough physical activity, who have problems with obesity, high cholesterol levels, diabetes or suffer from a coronary heart disease are more likely to be affected by cardiac arrest. Consequently, choosing to provide your home or apartment building with an external semi-automatic defibrillator is an investment in life.

In public transport

Thousands of people travel every day taking advantage of public and private transport: cars, trains, airplanes, subways and those suffering from cardiac arrest do not have the possibility of safety unless the means of transport have an external semi-automatic defibrillator and personnel trained in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation maneuvers. Therefore, the presence on board of the transport means of a AED defibrillator is of vital importance for those suffering from cardiac arrest within the means of transport, but also for those caught by illness in the immediate area.

In sports activities

During physical activity, changes occur in the healthy heart that alter the way in which the heart generates and leads the impulse. There are two procedures that must be administered sequentially according to the protocols explained in the BLS-D courses: cardiac massage that keeps the heart responsive to the subsequent intervention of emergency health care and early defibrillation that is able to rehabilitate an effective heart rhythm. Furthermore, the Balduzzi decree of 24 April 2013 and the related amendment of 27 June 2017 highlight the importance of the presence of an AED defibrillator in sports facilities where professional activity is practiced.

In the catering sector

Even if the law does not require it, providing its restaurant with external semi-automatic defibrillators demonstrates attention and sensitivity towards the health and safety of its employees and their customers. Offering customers a place with AED is certainly an important plus even under the latter point of view, especially nowadays when we are increasingly spreading the concept of cardio-protection.

In the nautical world

During navigation, in the middle of the sea, the only possibility to provide quick rescue is to have on board personnel trained for basic life support with defibrillator (BLSD) and one (or more) AED suitable for marine use. MET-LIFE is the official distributor of STRYKER products, including SAMARITAN PAD350 and SAMARITAN PAD500 defibrillators, the only ones with IP56 protection level according to IEC 60529 standard.

In the hospitality industry

Spending a relaxing holiday in a charming hotel, maybe quiet and a little isolated, away from the traffic and the frenetic pace of the city is a desire that many of us have. The variety of services (meetings, weddings, restaurants, swimming pools, spa, gym, etc.) as well as the considerable extension and the large influx of public are common characteristics of the hotels and even more important is the health of the guests themselves and the staff work inside. Reaching a person caught in a sudden cardiac arrest within a hotel can be very complicated. Staying in a structure equipped with a semi-automatic portable defibrillator helps to give serenity and comfort to all guests. Moreover, since in these structures you are never alone, it is therefore essential that everyone learn to intervene quickly and save lives.
